The Peter Barshay Trio

With Peter Barshay / bass; Matt Clark / piano, and Vince Lateano / drums

The Peter Barshay Trio is an ensemble made up of three acclaimed and experienced jazz musicians: bassist Peter Barshay, pianist Matt Clark, and drummer Mark Ferber. Among them, they have decades of professional experience in places ranging from New York to Paris, Toronto to Tokyo, and Boston to Berlin, working with some of the greatest jazz musicians of the past 40 years.

For this show, they will be playing a variety of original compositions, along with original arrangements, and original takes on some of the myriad incredible compositions from the jazz repertoire. This trio has a deep affection for the timeless classics of jazz composition, and original approaches to interpreting them. We are delighted to be able to share it with appreciative audiences.

Artist Profiles

Peter Barshay: A veteran bassist who has established a strong reputation over the years from his sideman work on both the New York City and San Francisco Bay Area jazz scenes, Peter Barshay has performed with such jazz luminaries as Kenny Barron, Freddie Hubbard, Sonny Stitt, Kenny Werner, Shirley Horn, Woody Shaw, Pharoah Sanders, Blue Mitchell, Tony Williams, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Johnny Griffin and Bobby McFerrin.

Barshay’s numerous appearances at clubs and jazz festivals have taken him around the world, helping to establish his reputation as a solid, reliable bassist. Having soaked up a lifetime of sounds on both coasts -- everything from salsa and straight ahead to funk-fusion, avant-garde and music derived from the Afro-Cuban and Brazilian traditions -- he brings a wealth of experience to the musical table.

Matthew Clark holds a BM in Jazz Studies from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music.
